Rumor: Three Samsung Windows Phones coming in 2012, including the Mandel
Everyone’s excited to see two new LTE devices join the Windows Phone ranks this weekend, but once upon a time there was supposed to be a third. The rumored Samsung Mandel has been an on again-off again tale, along with fabled new offerings meant for global markets as well. None of them have coalesced into any official product, but WPDang insists that Samsung still has plans for Windows Phone in 2012.
According to the Chinese site’s sources, the home that built the Focus lineup in America has three new phones in the works to debut sometime this year. First up is the aforementioned Mandel, which sources say is still on-lock for a release in the first-half of 2012 although it most likely won’t be keeping its codename once it reaches the market. Sources also say that the device will launch with the Tango update on board, which corroborates with another rumor WPDang caught wind of last month. If the devices from each rumor are one and the same, then the Mandel should arrive in June of this year. Meanwhile the other two devices in question will launch in the second-half of 2012, likely with Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) on board.
WPDang has had an impeccable track record in the past few months so we think there’s some substance to what they’re reporting. With that said, all rumors are subject to some skepticism and judging by Samsung’s disinterest in Windows Phone as of late we wouldn’t be surprised if the Mandel never even sees the light of day. Let’s hope that’s not the case.
